Every photograph on this page is our own work, from our own project records — a complete redesign at Saffron Walden, a large natural stone terrace at Manuden, a small patio and pond at Bishop's Stortford, and the grounds we keep through the year. The brief, and what we did about it.
Front and back gardens rebuilt, with a block paved drive
A block paved driveway was specified and every other idea was discussed, drawn into a plan and quoted for. The rear garden was completed first, working in all weathers as far as possible; the front was done keeping disruption and mess to a minimum. It has given the family a very usable space that adds value to the property.

New stone terrace and extended garden wall around a pool
Following completion of a new swimming pool we were commissioned to take up and dispose of all the existing paving, then create a large paved area in natural stone — 300 square metres in total — extending the garden wall and building in steps down to the lawn. All the planning and design was carried out by ourselves, with everything agreed with the client first.

A rear patio reworked, with a pond built into the corner
A smaller job: rework the rear patio, supply and lay budget slabs, retain the lawn and build a small pond into one corner. A quick, pleasant job with an immediate improvement to the look of the space — the client was very happy and all the works came in on the budget that had been set.

Complete garden creation
Saffron Walden — the finished front garden: a block paved drive sweeping to the door, edged in brick, with a low retaining wall holding the new planting bed.
Saffron Walden — the block paved path curving to the front door with a brick-edged border, newly planted and mulched either side.
Saffron Walden — paving run right up to the garage threshold and around a curved brick planter, laid to falls so water runs off the hard standing.

Paving & walling
Manuden — the new natural stone terrace running out around the pool, 300 square metres in all, with the lawn beyond kept clear of the working area.
Manuden — the stone laid up to the pool surround and the extended garden wall, with the paving falling gently away from the house.

Manuden — mid-build: the old paving lifted and taken away, the ground dug out and services run before any of the new stone went down.
Patios & ponds
Bishop's Stortford — the reworked rear patio, slabs laid level and the lawn retained behind a timber edge with pots set along it.
Bishop's Stortford — the small pond built into the corner of the patio, timber-edged, stone-trimmed and planted up.

Grounds maintenance
A large lawn cut to a clean stripe and edged against a retaining wall and mature trees — regular cutting on a booked round.
An avenue of specimen trees standing in striped grass — mown around, kept clear and maintained through the season.
A broad open area cut to a consistent finish, with a roller at the edge of frame — the kind of ground gang and triple mowing is made for.
A rear garden scheme in timber and stone — raised beds, a paved sitting area and planting kept in order.
A paved courtyard with stepped planting beds and a gravel border, kept weeded and pruned on a seasonal round.

How we work on site
